VAPA Sauna Accessories ST001 Series Natural Basalt Sauna Stones 15kg - Durable for High-Temp Sauna Heater Premium Heat Retention for Sauna Heater
Product introduction
Irregular sauna stones are natural fragments of volcanic rock or basalt. They look like random pieces of gravel, with a honeycombed surface full of tiny holes. This unique structure is what makes them great at producing steam. When cold water hits these stones, which have been heated until they’re glowing red, the water quickly seeps into the pores. Then, the heat makes the water expand and burst, creating a powerful rush of steam. The Finns call this “löyly,” and it gives you that intense sauna experience.
One advantage of these stones is that you can stack them casually, but there are two key rules. For the bottom layer, use larger stones (about the size of a fist) to support the weight. On top, place smaller stones (around the size of an egg) to increase the surface area. Leave a gap about two to three fingers wide between each layer to let heat flow freely. Also, flip the stones over completely every six months to stop dust and carbon buildup at the bottom, which can affect heat transfer.
Thanks to their porous structure, these stones can boost steam production by around 40%. But because they make steam so fast, you’ll need to add water more often. Made from natural materials, they can handle extremely high temperatures (over 600°C) and last 3 to 5 years. They’re also affordable, costing about 50 to 100 yuan for a 10kg bag, making them a great choice for public saunas or places with heavy use.
Remember these two important tips: Soak and scrub new stones before using them to remove any dust from shipping. And never use crystalline rocks like quartz, as they can explode when they get wet.
